As a freelance teaching professional I offer three types of services:

• Delivery of primary and secondary computing and ICT curriculum adapted to school needs, on an hourly basis
• Extra-curricular coding clubs
• Holiday computing courses (stages)

Delivery of UK and International computing and ICT curriculum

As a teacher specialised in computing and ICT, I create material and resources with a focus on inquiry-based learning, as I believe this is essential for the development of analytical, critical and computational thinking. I also encourage my students to be creative independent learners and to apply their knowledge outside the classroom. I design and deliver student-centred activities to cultivate interpersonal and social skills and a team-working ethos, which are vital for establishing mutual respect and cooperation.

Irrespective of age group, I stress the importance of e-safety by constantly modelling the critical e-safe behaviour required to interact with the digital world. An active understanding of the values of intellectual property and e-safety is crucial to the new generation’s development as citizens of an increasingly digital society.

I adapt to your needs as regards the syllabus, covering topics such as computer hardware, telecommunication networks, databases, multimedia processing and various programming environments from Kodable, Hopscotch, Scratch and App Inventor to Python, Java, SQL, HTML5 and JavaScript.

I particularly enjoy working in international schools, where I aim to provide an inclusive learning environment for children from a wide range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Extra-curricular coding clubs

My teaching experience has shown me that learning can be best achieved through play. My game-based clubs are an ideal way to introduce young learners to computational thinking.

My extra-curricular clubs, held on schools’ premises, aim to develop young people’s critical thinking and ability to apply computational concepts across disciplines and contexts by building on their creativity, imagination and interests.

Children become familiar with problem solving in a systematic way, they write code to create their own games and interactive activities or control robots.

Primary coding

These clubs include a series of easy-to-follow coding projects, which help children write their own programs on Kodable, Hopscotch, Scratch and App Inventor by making games, animations and interactive applications. The projects gradually enable young learners to combine coding concepts with ICT tools and grow their understanding of digital making.

Primary robotics

The aim of this programme is to prepare chidren for tomorrow’s digital word and for them to understand how machines and computer programs work. It was first introduced by CodeNPlay (ASBL) in Belgian schools four years ago and, as their external partner, last year, I joined their team to facilitate the same programme in English.

Secondary coding

These clubs offer opportunities for deeper understanding of computational concepts, the development of more advanced programs on visual programming environments such as Scratch and App Inventor. Pupils also become accustomed to textual programming in Python, Java, HTML and JavaScript.

Holiday computing courses (stages)

These courses offer a variety of activities from programming a game or interactive programme for a computer or a smart phone, or building a website, to exploring the world of robotics or producing fun animations!

Unplugged activities are staggered throughout the day to break up screen time and younger participants are encouraged to be physically active as part of these activities.

Sessions can be adapted to suit varying timeframes (1-5 days).

Although I consider the development of analytical and computational thinking as key priorities, I also aim to foster creative expression, cooperation and effective communication. My vision is a society of creative citizens who will be able to think out of the box, provide innovative solutions to complicated problems and make a difference in our global society.
